Our two-boat package is absolutely ideal
for team building. Two yachts racing against each other gives
each team a specific goal of winning the race, with a variety
of tasks throughout the day that assist them in achieving that
goal.
Bring along your staff and introduce them to a whole new way
of communicating, utilising the boats and each other to gain
the best result at the end of the
day.
Your group will be split
into two teams, one will sail aboard Swan Galiana and the other
aboard
Swan
Valhalla. A professional skipper and crew will assist
each of the teams and
a stewardess will provide the much needed sustenance and drinks throughout
the intensive day.
Your teams will learn how to handle
the boats, doing everything from steering, navigating
(not the easiest
job in the busy waters of the Solent) and trimming the sails. On large sailing
yachts such as these Swan 55s there are many jobs to do and the boat will
only go fast if all these jobs are completed quickly, efficiently
and with perfect timing. The afternoon's race will tell which
team has maximised all its resources using the best person
for each
job and helping
each other on board to cross
the finish line first.
We can arrange to bring aboard a specialist team builder who will put together
a program that will be for your specific team and company, helping you maximise
the potential of our yachts as a platform for team building.
| 09.00am |
Arrival Arrive at Swanick Marina. Welcomed
aboard by the Skippers and crew.
Split into two teams and board the yachts where you will
be served tea, coffee and breakfast. |
| 09.30am |
Leave the Dock The yachts will leave the
pontoon and cruise down Hamble River. The skipper will give
an introduction
to the boats and a safety briefing during this passage. |
| 10.15am |
Sail Training Hoist
the sails and head out into the Solent. Both yachts will
sail along together
whilst
everyone
gets to know the boats and each other in readiness for
the afternoons match racing. The skipper of each yacht
will help the team, but it is up to them to work together
to gather who would be best at the individual positions
on the yacht, such as steering, trimming and grinding.
Over the course of the morning the team will change between
the majority of positions on the yacht.
|
| 11.30am |
Team Selection The team
has to select whom to put in which position. By allocating
suitable people in each position and beginning to work as
a finely tuned team the chances of winning the race are greatly
improved. This selection will maximise their potential as
a yacht crew. Once they have made these decisions there will
be one hour of race training involving start manoeuvres,
tacking, gybing and fast boat handling. |
| 12.30pm |
Break for Lunch Stop for drinks and a delicious
lunch in a sheltered anchorage. We often use Osborne Bay
on the
Isle
of Wight, which is where Queen Victoria used to summer. |
| 02.30pm |
The Race The skippers
of each yacht will set up a racecourse using various marks
around the Solent. The teams will have to take on the challenge
of navigating around these marks taking in account the wind
direction, tidal streams, and wind strength across the course
and other obstacles within the vicinity. These extra factors,
added to the challenge of perfect crew work, will make the
teams think throughout the afternoon. Racing provides individuals
with mental and physical stimulation as well as creating
the ideal team-building environment of rising to the challenge
with the ultimate goal of beating the other yacht to the
finish. |
| 05.00pm |
Back to base Drop the sails at the mouth
of the Hamble River and motor back to the marina; afternoon
tea
will be
served during this passage. |
| 05.30pm |
Debriefing and skippers assessment of individuals
and the team as a whole. Guests depart |
Each yacht can accommodate up to 10 people and we can tailor the day to suit your specific company and team. You can also charter the yachts individually and we will put together a one-boat package involving similar skills and tasks.
In addition to the Solent team building
packages, we can put together an event that involves an overnight
passage to Weymouth or Poole. The destination depends on the
tide and weather conditions. This extra challenge of navigating
long distances and the chance to sail outside the Solent can
be very rewarding.
